Year 2014 - Where it all started
Freespirit Recreation is born
Founded in Bend, Oregon in 2014 marking the start of Freespirit Recreation and the beginning of a journey that will prove to innovate based on customer feedback.
Year 2015 - Adventure Series
Launch of Adventure Series
Introduced at Overland Expo, Adventure Series got its start with a Jeep Partnership and what has inspired the beginning of making rooftop tents extremely easy to setup and takedown.
Year 2016 - Expanding our footprint
Annexes
Accessories quickly became a focus for the FSR lineup. Specifically, accessories to help customers have a more flexible footprint while camping.
Year 2017 - Evolving the Adventure Series
Adventure Series - Gas Strut
To make the OG Adventure Series that much better, we evolved the previous "manual" version to be gas strut-assisted to the quickest, easiest setup available at the time for FSR tents.
Year 2018 - New Series Introduced
High Country Series
Taking our first step into listening to customer feedback, the High Country Series was introduced. Little did we know, that this would be one of the most popular tents for FSR history and that we would iterate and continue to improve this series.
Year 2019 - FSR Lands on the Moon
Readylight
As a first step into the camp light world, we introduced Readylight Gen1 as our first solar-powered camp/utility light. Now with our Gen2, Mini and High Beam versions, FSR truly continues to develop newer and more flexible versions of the Readylight family.
Year 2020 - Hardshell Duo
Evolution & Odyssey
2020 was a busy year for us as we released our first iterations of the Odyssey and Evolution Series rooftop tents. Evolution easily became the flagship tent for FSR as we introduced the unique design to the world.
Year 2021 - FSR gets grounded
Hubs/SEMA Hummer
This was a year for new product lines and partnerships at FSR. The Hub tent lineup was a necessary component for us and our customers. Our partnership with GM started off with a bang at SEMA show in Vegas.
Year 2022 - FSR lands in Golden, Co
FSR HQ
Moving headquarters from Bend, OR to Golden, CO was finalized and our current location was converted from a supplement warehouse into a showroom and fulfillment center.
Year 2023 - FSR loses some weight
Aspen Lite
Creating an ultralight rooftop tent required months of testing and iterating. Aspen Lite, our first hybrid rooftop tent, taught us the importance of weight savings, while still maintaining a rigid, quality tent structure for customers to enjoy.
Kitchen systems, sleep systems, new tents.. oh my
Rebrand + much more
2024 was a big year for FSR in terms of introducing new products and categories. We finalized our V2 lineup of RTTs, awnings & Hub tents, introduced our new kitchen & sleep systems, and we rebranded along with a new website. Whew..
At FSR, our goal has always been to reinvent the rooftop tent from the ground up, creating industry-leading designs focused on quality and innovation.
Founded in Bend, Oregon in 2014, Freespirit Recreation, referred to as FSR, is known for using high quality materials like the FSR proprietary tri-layer, all season fabric, while also creating designs that are easy to use, and that allow for fast and easy set-ups.
Since 2019, FSR has been a family owned and operated company, that is something that we are proud of. As native Nebraskans, Colorado has become a home away from home with FSR HQ located in Golden, Colorado. Brothers, Tanner Tewes and Ben Tewes lead the FSR team as Co-Presidents. Tanner leads the marketing team and Ben heads up product development while also creating FSR HQ as a fun and inviting place to see industry leading rooftop tents and gear in Colorado. Their sister, Kristine Sewell works hard for FSR Corporate, bringing her brothers ideas and projects to life along with managing the FSR wholesale accounts. And their Mom, Renee Tewes, handles operations and financials, ensuring that FSR continues to grow for years to come.
Our goal will always be to provide the best products with exceptional customer service as you explore this great planet with us!

What I do on my free time: What free time?! 3 kids, 2 American Bulldogs, and a hubby keep me pretty busy! But if I do have a free minute and I am not at a baseball field in the summer, I like to read a good book and enjoy it with a great glass of wine!

Favorite camping spot: Well, wherever we end up, I make sure we are safe. I chased a bear once, I watched that movie for days in my sleep.
